The French Gold 20 Francs coin—often called the “Napoléon”—is a classic 19th–early 20th century gold coin prized for both history and bullion value. First issued in 1803 under Napoleon Bonaparte, it later carried several iconic designs, from Napoleon I and Napoleon III to French Republic motifs such as the Rooster and Angel. As a key coin of the Latin Monetary Union, it helped standardize trade across Europe and remains popular with collectors and investors today.

According to the original specifications, each gold coin contains 5.806 grams of gold within a total weight of 6.45 grams, with a gold purity of 90%. Minor variations in weight and purity are to be expected due to the less advanced production techniques of the past and the wear and tear from these coins having circulated extensively over time. Given their age and usage, such deviations are considered normal. Coins falling within this 1% purity and weight tolerance are considered normal and will not be exchanged.

Designs differ by year. The coin shown features Marianne (Liberty) on the obverse and a Rooster on the reverse, but depending on stock and issue year, the coin you receive may have a different historical design.
